Resolina's Letter #2 (1/25/2020)
Knowing your Cosmetics

If you quit right after Helm's Deep was released in 2014 and just now returning back to the game, you might have missed a few things. This section will cover the wonderful world of cosmetics (that are in the game, not that stuff you use to dress your face).

General Cosmetic Locations:

  1. Bingo Boffin: Check each barter location after each zone for different rewards. 52 Quests in total; Starts [33.0S, 75.1W] at Michel Delving from levels 8 to 93.
  2. Festivals: Click on the latest year of each festival on the wiki link for a list of quests and rewards; Check the Event Scheduler on the forum for upcoming events and dates.
  3. Skirmish Camp: There are also a few miscellaneous decorations tucked within certain categories in the "Classics" barterer.
  4. Cosmetic Barterer: A barterer will always be trading the latest cosmetics for Figments of Splendour (which can be obtained from festivals or traded from Embers/Motes of Enchantment) at Bree in Bree-land, by the Boar Fountain [30.3S, 51.1W], Galtrev in Dunland [80.2S, 16.8W], or Skarháld in Ered Mithrin [34.7N, 45.4W]. If you pay attention to the Lotro Beacon (where they offer the weekly code), they occasionally announce the appearance of the Curator that has certain choice cosmetics from the seasonal barterer over the years.
  5. Epic Quests: At certain intervals in the epic, you'll be rewarded with various outfits and housing decorations. I will also add a note here that there are a few ordinary quests that can reward certain cosmetics as well.
  6. Deeds (Social, Hidden, Racial, Class, Epic, Etc.): For example, /cheer will eventually reward /firebreath
  7. Lotro Store (Zone levels & Other Costs): If you feel daring to spend enough lotro points for a quest pack on a cosmetic (or if you are just plain rich), the lotro store has you covered.
  8. Legendary Server: If you are VIP and reach certain points on the Anor or Ithil servers, you can gain portrait frames among a few other things.

Housing Decorations: Did you lose your house? Buy another one and all your stuff from your previous house chest will be transferred over to your new one. If it isn't there, check with your Escrow Broker. If you don't have a house... why? I'll even give you the 5g and a nice care package to buy one. It gives you an extra chest to store your stuff (up to 60 slots without using mithril coins). Just know that no matter how many premium houses you buy in addition to your standard house, they will all carry the same storage chest. Check your local housing laws for how many things you can place in and around your house.

Some Useful Guides:

  1. List of All Lotro Decorations (Pictures & Requirements)
  2. Decoration Items by Category (List & Locations)
  3. Review of Housing Changes over the years

Housing Decoration Hotspots:

  1. Rohan Style, Hytbold: Don't give me that look. They made it easier to build! You can now do any 5 daily quests you want and turn in tokens for reputation. But eventually you will want to spend your tokens on any of its 83 decorations
  2. Gondor Style, Dol Amroth: Don't confuse this with Gangnam Style. If you aren't using your tokens on Anfalas Scroll of Empowerment or a Swan Pet, you can swap tokens around and find something useful in the 34 Gondorian Decorations.

Pets: The biggest news is the fact we now can have pets (and kites)! Press Shift + C to access Collections Tab to preview and view where they all come from. Other than the locations listed above, most can be bartered for with tokens at the end of every zone starting from Entwood (level 95). Though you can always check your local Auction House. If the market is fair, you might be able to obtain one between 10 - 40g.

Weapon Cosmetics: I bet you weren't expecting them to finally allow you show off different weapons. You can equip your weapon in your cosmetic window. Just be aware that it has to match the weapon type. You also have the option to click the eye icon whether you want it to be visually seen or not. Here is a place to see some various ones.

I don't have time to explore all the different places you can get cosmetics in Middle-Earth. There are plenty of fish in the sea. You could easily go read a book in the time to collect them all. But if you are interested, here are some other points of interest:

  1. Keeper of Mysteries: Unlike normal barterers at the end of each zone, this person provides a list of cosmetics for Figments of Splendour in the Mordor expansion (since the ash currency no longer exists). Not only did they include Bones of Smaug from Strongholds of the North but black weapons with a melted tip from Armory of Thrang and iconic shields used in the Battle of Pelennor from Shields of the Valiant.
  2. Camp of the Host: There are some very nice decorations located here. Sure there are only 13 decorations (if you exclude the Belfalas Theme they added to the Housing Furnisher) but it is also perhaps the easiest place to obtain a Red Squirrel and Ithilien Fox. While getting tokens, you can also obtain any of the 16 shields to hang on your wall.
  3. Featured Challenge Rewards Vendor: Aha! You probably didn't know completing those challenges in the featured instance was good for something. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can trade Newfound Coins for some shields (both in weapon slot and on back), Tome of the White Fox, Tome of the Songbird, and Elk of Felegoth's Night.

Did you know that... The time required to execute planting recipes has been reduced from 10 seconds to 3 seconds for most farmer field recipes.
Continue checking Lotro Bullroarer and Patches for updates to the game.
