re: SLOTRO - on-level gaming

Hi,

please check kin mail for next week. I'll update the other forum entry accordingly.

There are a few more items in my housing chest, especially either journeyman crafting tomes OR the recipes to make them. I made what I could of the more popular tailor and jeweler scrolls. I would be happy to make other journals from these supplies if you let me know which you'd like. No sense in wasting mats, otherwise.

The class items for captain's heralds and burglar caltrops and marbles have been used. There is some food left, so please take it before it spoils and I'm forced to sell rotten food at the AH. It just doesn't seem to follow the spirit of the season to toss it ;)

Thanks,

Oz

re: Suggestion to do Road to Erebor quests next week

Warning: Long post

Hello all, it was a great skirmish run on Saturday. Even at T1, the Tempest of Flame almost wiped out our whole raid group.

So Biz and I were talking on Saturday after SLOTRO, and we kinda want to do the Erebor quest line (starting from Gandalf at Lv20).

If we were to attempt the Road to Erebor instances (starting from 3-man and 6-man), I would highly suggest to not accept Gandalf's quest as we do them. Reasons for this include:

1. Gandalf's quest is a free port to Rivendell (cooldown of 5min after you cancel the quest). Completing this quest would mean no more free port to Rivendell forever. It would help if you don't have swift travel active / no VIP, and if you're not a hunter / warden / elf. (Note: There isn't a way back. It's a one-way trip, so watch out before accepting the quest)

2. This quest doesn't actually provide any rewards. It's one of those quests that give you a guideline on how to progress according to the timeline (i.e. 3-mans --> Bells of Dale --> Flight to the Lonely Mountains --> Fires of Smaug --> The Battle for Erebor). The quest doesn't even have coin rewards or an ending to it.

I'm thinking of having the Road to Erebor instances as our final stop at Lv20. I think it feels more fitting that way, than if we were to run landscape quests / skirmishes as our final stop for Lv20. We can, however, stop for a longer time, if you need more time finish deeds, etc. It's a slow-levelling group anyway, and we don't have to rush things. Besides, you guys probably have other alts to work on and don't want to spend too much time on your SLOTRO toons on off-days to work on deeds.

I'm open to more suggestions to what we can do next week.

P.S. In addition, for future plans, we could probably do chicken play (to Minas Tirith) as one whole SLOTRO group together. The most boring thing ever solo, but with a 12-man (or rather 12-chicken) group, this could be pretty fun. This takes a really long time (I read somewhere it took about 4 hours to complete), so this would have to be planned weeks before, and I would like everyone to join for this, so no one is left out.

I wouldn't have thought of that. So are there more goals than MT... like Moria?

Also thinking ahead, the North Downs and Trestlebridge area with all the orcs and the heavier mobs in the mountains there would be something else to try in teams of two or three.

I wonder what others might come up with as places a little tougher and could be an intermediate step to what's in Smelly's guide?

Hmm... I'm not sure what you mean by "more goals than MT". I was actually referencing the Chicken Play to Minas Tirith (for the Lord of the Wings title), which is the grand finale to all the chicken plays to different parts of Eriador. I don't think there is a Chicken Play run to Moria, considering how densely packed the mobs in Moria are.

And to the intermediate steps, yeah we should definitely team up in small groups to attempt fellowship landscape areas (I believe I briefly mentioned this in my first post in this thread). In fact, I highly recommend this, since we don't have that many opportunities to do this ever again post-Angmar.

I also mentioned something like capping at 25 for a while, but on hindsight I find this a little weird, as that would mean halting progress in questing in both the Lone Lands and North Downs.

At the top of my head, the fellowship areas I can think of right now are Nan Wathren (Lv26), Dol Dinen (Lv30) and Garth Agarwen (Lv32).

Those sound very good. Nan Wathren was the area that brought the question to my mind.

Ahh I see what you mean. Yeah indeed, there are other shorter chicken play runs in Eriador. The Minas Tirith one is a future plan anyway. The Eriador chicken plays are mostly soloable, except for the Trollshaws one, I think (there is a guide where you can solo it by avoiding all the lynxes in the High Moor, but I think it's just luck-based). But of course, we could do everything as a group. We could probably do these at the Lv40 cap, when we can escort one another through the Trollshaws.

Sounds like fun... maybe a full-kin event? Something to consider.  Thanks!

Preparation (of course, see Smelly's guide below): Let's focus on Agamaur this week. The epic at this level is Vol 1, Book 2 The Red Maid. Run through Chap 15, The Red Pass to open Agamaur. It can be done as a fellowship, so see about grouping up for something different! Book 3 goes onto the North Downs. We will wait on Fornost for a bit, though the Nan Watheren area run in small fellowships would be fun. Level 32 will have us a bit OP, but the bosses are OP in the nether reaches of these regions :)

I'm still at Lv24 right now. I've been levelling really slowly, including using the tortoise of the stone for lower-levelled quests. It'll be great if we can all do the epic quests together today just to level up a bit. If it's ok, I'll like to bring along my hobbit hunter (2nd account) to leech off XP. I'm planning to power level this hobbit.

EDIT: Might be slightly late today (maybe can only start at 10.30am), but I'll see

How the time is working out for everyone? Is it colliding with lunch or other activities? Should we slide it 30 minutes or an hour one way or another?

Curiously,

Hi,

so is our next lock

35 (allowing a challenging Evendim, and on the beginning level of Trollshaws), or

40, which would be the upper-end of Evendim?

thoughts? Also, we have a couple of branches now with these two regions overlapped. Follow the Epic in order?

Guess I should see how Smelly's group did it, too....

For level 40, the only non-scaled instance is Tomb of Elendil, so everyone should do the "Blade That Was Broken" quest line.  Running around Giant Valley would be fun too.

From Smelly's guide:

lvl 40 and holding

Areas include Trollshaws and Evendim.

Core goals
Upgrade your class skills as far as you can within the level range.
Update your chosen virtues as far as you can within Trollshaws and Evendim.
Complete the Epic quest line within Trollshaws to level 40.
Continue your crafting and guild crafting.

Fun Goals
Continue your adventure with Bingo Boffin through to *Notes by the Author (Hall of Fire Rivendell), and earn yourself a Brown Squirrel.
Find Glimmertail, Mangetail, Steelmaw or Windscreamer and steal their adamant shards.
Cop a squat on the highest monument you can get to in Evendim, and take a screenshot.

Freestyle
Use Trollshaws and Evendim to complete as many quests, deeds and tasks that you wish.

Group Content for this level range
Revisits of all scaled content covered so far at your leisure.
Tomb of Elendil (This is a challenging run on level, but a lot of fun. So try and make it for this if you can.)
Ost Elendil
Glinghant
Haudh Valandil

I generally do Evendim first, then the Trollshaws.  Evendim goes 30 to 40; Trollshaws starts at 35, I think.
